Also, Paramount has released a grand total of 7 films this year; it has barely kept the lights on. Ellison has announced plans to expand that to 15 in coming years. Does anyone imagine he is going to double his studio's output AND support a second studio slate as well? It will not happen.

Will Netflix keep WB as a separate studio and freestanding theatrical operation? I hope so. The acquisition makes more sense that way. But I don't know. The point is, it's a chance worth taking if the alternative is the end of the studio.

A lot of the people bemoaning Netflix's possible acquisition of WB are ignoring the fact that if WB goes to Paramount, it will be Disney buying Fox all over again--WB will become a "label" within Paramount and then simply disappear. Ellison hasn't shown he can run one studio. Don't give him two. >

All media mergers end up hurting writers, actors, directors, and everyone else who works in the industry. Executives, assistants, caterers, teamsters, everyone. Fewer companies means fewer jobs, period.

Well, here we go. This felt inevitable, in a way. It also feels like terrible news for movie theaters everywhere. I mean, this is Warner Bros. we’re talking about. They have to be a cinema-first company, right? That doesn’t seem like something Netflix would be likely to do.

I probably shouldn’t be surprised to see Wicked: For Good pop up in the top 10s for both AFI, NBR, etc., but I still am. That film is nowhere near as good as the first one. Is it really going all the way to a Best Picture nomination despite being such a noticeable step down in quality?

Look, Tarantino is a brilliant filmmaker with an oeuvre that I love, but that’s just a ridiculously mean (and completely unnecessary) thing to say about Paul Dano. I also think he’s wrong. Dano is terrific in the film and is one of its MANY strengths.
Quentin Tarantino says 'There Will Be Blood' had a chance to be his greatest film of the 21st century if it didnt have Paul Dano in it

"it’s supposed to be a two-hander, but ... [Dano] is weak sauce, man ... He’s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest fucking actor in SAG [laughs]"

This is who she was.
Passionate in her beliefs. Fiercely loyal to her friends. Never afraid to let you know exactly where she stood. The best.

Fun Fact: I remember arguing with her over which of us hated Piggy the most. I was sure I did. She disagreed. It remains unresolved...

Train Dreams is a naturalistic, poetic, and wonderfully shot film that ought to be seen on the biggest screens, so it’s kind of strange that it’s a Netflix film, but, at the same time, I love that it now, because of the streamer, gets an international audience. One of the best films of the year.

I need to carve out some time soon to check out TRAIN DREAMS. Looks phenomenal.

Look, I get that sometimes you have to roll the dice, but it is still shocking to me that studio heads somewhere expected Tron: Ares and The Running Man to be profitable given their packages.

OMG!! I am having a moment over here. #Stargate (SG-1 especially, but also the OG film and the spin-off shows) was one of my first loves. If this is NOT a reboot but actually a new chapter that respects (and keeps in canon) the shows that came before, I couldn’t be more excited!!

Good to see Mads Mikkelsen earn a European Film Awards nomination for his work in The Last Viking. He’s been nominated a number of times (& has won the award a couple of times), but I think this is his 1st nom for one of Anders Thomas Jensen’s comedies. www.europeanfilmawards.eu/european-fil...

Well, that fucking sucks. Loved POKER FACE and Natasha Lyonne in it. The show would not be the same without her and it deserves a proper ending. I would hate for it to just end like this.
‘POKER FACE’ has been cancelled by Peacock after 2 seasons.

However, Rian Johnson is pitching a new version of the series with Peter Dinklage taking over as detective Charlie Cale

I love how unapologetic John Wick 4 is. It’s in that ‘gung-ho’ delight in the stuff you love mode. The filmmakers know it’s cool and maybe too ‘powerful’ (and yet delicious) like under-diluted Ribena, but they just let it be an intoxicating thrill-ride. What a gem of a film.
