A generic Chicago-centered posting account.
I mean… I think the lesson from Polis is that elites are just as susceptible to internet brain rot as your annoying coworker who brings up already debunked stuff he read on Facebook in the break room.
not sure how one argues with a straight face anymore that liberal elites did not play an outsized role in the slow-then-sudden disappearance of the cordon sanitaire around open racism and eugenics

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

Unironically though, I’ve never got so many people going “Hell yeah!” than skiing on the streets of Bucktown This morning.
Reminder that #PlowTheSidewalks is a plot to discriminate against people whose primary mode to mobility is Nordic skiing.

Please think of the city’s Minnesotan-American community.

The actual answer is somehow worse than you think.
this tweet raises a lot of uncomfortable questions, like “who the fuck is captgouda24”

it’s been pretty funny to see Polis’ addiction to posting completely end any discussion of him as a potential 2028 candidate

Sure, this isn’t true in any practical sense, but it feels good to tweet, doesn’t it?
It would cost $30 billion to end homelessness in the USA.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the "Metaverse" has lost his company more than $77 billion.

Dragon* fossil.
Imagine being a medieval peasant and digging up a dinosaur fossil

One thing I’d really like to see evidence of is whether or not the amount allowing of system-gaming that exists is actually making it easier for people who legitimately require accommodations to get them.

Coming from a world where I saw what happens with VA disability, the opposite seems to happen.
I think filling the top ranks of our education system with people who got there in part by abusing a system designed to help disabled people will select morally deficient people for leadership positions in our society and is worth taking steps to avoid bsky.app/profile/padr...
I mean if the only risk is some kids getting extra time on tests it seems like not such a big deal

Say what you will about Yglesias, but this dry humor post being taken literally really encapsulates the culture on this website.
Y’all talked too much about the TN-7 race, turned it high salience, juiced turnout, and wrecked Dems’ chances of sneaking in a win.

It’s still darkly funny that what ultimately killed the sidewalk plowing pilot was liability concerns because everyone knows the city’s personal injury lawyers were seeing dollar signs.

A very Chicago way for a program to die.

The real danger of AI is apparently…people not being able to recognize obviously satirical posts.

When in proposed my “always assume anyone with an Ed.D is a crank” rule, even I thought I was going too far, but it has yet to be proven wrong.

I’m of two minds here because the only time I’ve been hit on a bike in this city was at this intersection, but at the same time elimination of a turn lane on 18th caused gridlock for blocks on one of the few streets that go in and out of the neighborhood.
The alderperson provided an update today: many of the already installed protections will be removed and planned protections will not be installed
the bike lane construction in question

it goes from 18th/Clark to 18th/Michigan, with a protected intersection at 18th/Wabash

Sure, this is a terrible idea with horrific consequences, but I’m also sitting on a nice family sized home and a 3% mortgage, so for once it’s nice to have a terrible policy personally benefit me, so let ‘er rip, guys!
There is a property tax revolt starting in Chicago. One group is calling for a new policy 'modeled after California's Prop 13'

Folks, I will self-immolate in front of city hall if that happens

Wait what do these people think drinking is like?

The real Montreal cognitive assessment is replying to someone saying “Bounjour” with a polite “Hello” so that you’ve indicated you would like the rest of the interaction out be in English. Many Americans fail this assessment.

This is why I mostly met the Bari Weiss news with a shrug. Establishment media all already chock-full of shallow contrarians.
For context, Yglesias has written detailed threads and articles on his blog about how devastating Trump's proposed economic platform would be to the economy, inflation, and the deficit. This is the response from an NYT economics reporter.

I’ve been saying for a while that Johnson’s problem isn’t so much tied to ideology so much as to the fact that he’s just a really stupid guy.

I mean, sure there were all the atrocities, but his holiday also got a sizable people a Monday off work when October weather is the best so it’s impossible to say if he was bad or not.

At least 5 of the Democrats running for that Congressional seat—including a school board member, a mayor, & 2 state senators—have been on the neighborhood streets doing rapid response, and/or have been assaulted by ICE at Broadview

Uninformed cynicism is a toxin. Please don’t spread it.
If you are buying silly costumes and whistles to help stop our country from sliding into fascism: congratulations on doing more than our elected Democratic congresspeople!
Whistling when ICE is about to kidnap someone for no reason is incredibly effective. They know what they are doing is wrong and will scatter in the wind when too many witnesses gather.
