And we are off...! this week I start interviewing practitioners who have been part of the 9 previous homelessness and palliative care Communities of Practice that have run across England, to understand what was good, but also what could be better. Very exciting! @brionyhudson.bsky.social

The numbers don't add up.

Homelessness is rising, yet we’re still losing more social homes than we’re building.

The Govt wants to build 1.5m homes👏 That must include funding in the spending review to cover building 90,000 social homes annually.

Ethnic minority households are at the sharp end of Britain's housing crisis.

How significant are ethnic inequalities in housing affordability?
On average, ethnic minority households spend a larger share of their income on housing than White British counterparts. White British households are more than twice as likely to own their own home than Black African or Arab adults.
Except for Pakistani adults, tenure, age and region explain at least half of the affordability gap, with tenure by far the most important. A large part of the housing affordability gap faced by ethnic minorities is unexplained. They also suffer a housing quality gap, as they are more likely to live in overcrowded and substandard housing.

Speaking at our event last week, @camronaref.bsky.social showed that some minority groups are heavily over-represented in the homeless population.
