I had never even heard of him until Grijalva's election.

And I would recommend that you don't follow or read the work of any writer who would have a backstory with someone, write about them, but not disclose it.

Fred Armisen improvising as Michael Wolff, saying anything that pops into Fred's mind, would be more credible than anything Michael Wolff publishes.

It's not absolute either way, and less likely than more likely.

No. Both chambers must pass the associated measure and Trump must sign it in (or Congress must override his veto) order for it to become a law. Extremely unlikely.

What would happen with DOJ’s “Epstein files” if Rep.-elect Grijalva were to be officially sworn in? A 🧵.

TL/WR: It wouldn't release them nor materially increase the chances they’ll be released.

• Upon taking office Grijalva would presumably sign the discharge petition Rep. Massie (R-KY) has filed.

Nice catch; they deleted it.

would be referred to all standing committees; amendments such as this must be germane to the bill. So this way, all the possible bases are covered, and HR 185 already meets the 30-day threshold.

This is a parliamentary technique to accelerate the process; they now only have to wait 7 legislative days. Discharge petitions may only be attempted on bills that have been already referred to committees for 30 legislative days; HR 185 was referred in Jan & Mar.

It has many subjects so that it

The discharge petition doesn't do either of those things; it simply takes HRes 581 out of the Rules Committee (discharges it from the committee's consideration) and brings it to the Floor.

No. HRes 581 amends an existing bill, HR 185, to make it to the Epstein Files Transparency Act; if the House passes both measures, the Senate would still have to vote on HR 185, and the president would still have to sign it.

HRes 581 amends and replaces an existing, unrelated bill, HR 185, to make it the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and bring it to the Floor, waving most points of order.
