AI for Quantitative & Qualitative Research - Livestream starting Oct 14, 2025 (UTC)
Join Dr Hadi Fariborzi for a one-day, immersive workshop that teaches PhD students, academics, and professional researchers how to use AI as a practical coding and interpretation partner in both Python (Google Colab) and R (Posit Cloud). Through guided, hands-on examples you’ll build a complete AI-assisted mini research project—importing and cleaning data, running classical and advanced models (ANOVA, regression, multilevel models, SEM), doing thematic qualitative analysis and large-scale text mining, and producing reproducible narrative reports—while learning prompt strategies, debugging, and ethical documentation. Participants leave with downloadable Colab/Posit notebooks, an AI prompt library, cheat-sheets, exportable reports, and the judgment to audit AI-generated code and interpret model outputs; livestreams, recordings, and a monitored Q&A forum are available for 30 days after the seminar, and an Instats certificate (with ECTS equivalents where shown) is provided on completion. Register to gain transferable, career-relevant skills for thesis work, grant projects, teaching, and collaborative reproducible research.

Design-Based vs. Model-Based Estimation (Free Seminar) - Livestream starting Oct 8, 2025 (UTC)
Join our webcast examining design-based versus model-based estimation in the common “all or nothing” setting (y = x with probability p, otherwise 0), with a focus on tax applications and small-area estimation. We’ll cover the theoretical foundations of model-based approaches, show simulations comparing their performance to design-based methods (Mean Per Unit / Horvitz‑Thompson and the difference estimator), and discuss practical trade-offs, assumptions, and implications for rigorous empirical research and policy analysis. The seminar is livestreamed via Zoom and all recordings, slides, code, and data will be available for 30 days after the session (on-demand enrolments also receive 30 days of access). Ideal for PhD students, survey statisticians, and researchers — join us live or watch on demand.

Introduction to Hospital Episode Statistics - Livestream starting Nov 6, 2025 (UTC)
Advance your research skills with our practical online seminar on Hospital Episode Statistics (HES): learn how HES are collected, coded and structured, how to clean, manage and analyse HES data in R or Stata, and how to handle data inconsistencies, anonymity and confidentiality for robust academic and applied work. Delivered via lectures and hands-on practicals using simulated data (scripts provided), the course is ideal for researchers and data analysts in academia, government and the private sector—no lecture prerequisites. Sessions are offered live via Zoom and on-demand, with all recordings, materials and a monitored Q&A forum available for 30 days after the seminar; participants receive an Instats certificate of completion (ECTS equivalents shown for European students where applicable). Causal Mediation Analysis - Livestream starting Oct 1, 2025 (UTC)
Causal mediation analysis is essential for understanding not just whether an effect exists but how, how much, and under what conditions it operates—yet traditional mediation methods often rely on unrealistic assumptions. In this two-day online workshop led by Prof. Paola Zaninotto and Martin Danka (University College London), PhD students, academics and professional researchers in the social, health and life sciences will gain both the theoretical foundations of counterfactual causal mediation and practical skills to implement these methods in R and Stata. Topics include limitations of traditional approaches, counterfactual concepts, key identification assumptions, natural and interventional effects, g-computation, proportion mediated, handling complex confounding, and critical appraisal of assumptions, all taught through lectures and hands-on practicals. The course is accessible to those new to advanced mediation techniques as well as those seeking to deepen their expertise; sessions are livestreamed via Zoom, with recordings, code and materials available for 30 days after the workshop, a monitored Q&A forum for follow-up, and an Instats certificate of completion (with ECTS-equivalent points for European students where indicated). Find out more and register to build more rigorous, actionable causal analyses for your research.
