🌎 Here’s this week’s #WITWW location in black and white: Fire Island Lighthouse in Patchogue, NY! At 168 feet, it’s the tallest lighthouse on Long Island. While dogs can walk the lighthouse’s boardwalk and sandy grounds, they’re not permitted to climb the 182 steps to the top. #vizsla #IntrepidPup

🎨🐕 Well, hello there, #ArtfulPup! This week’s canine art feature is English artist William Barraud’s circa 1845 oil painting of Lord Henry Bentinck’s terrier and foxhounds. From the collection of Paul and Bunny Mellon, we saw it on view during the Rokeby Community Festival in Upperville, VA.

🌎 Greeting this #WITWW from the Main Hall on the campus of @TrinityDC in the nation's capital! This private university took its current name in 2004 but was founded in 1897 as simply Trinity College, the first Catholic liberal arts college for women in the US.

🎨 🐕 Meet Buster, the “Coal Saving Dog” as this week's #ArtfulPup. His 1924 pic appears in the Savannah History Museum. Buster was a Central of Georgia Railway foreman’s pet, trained to round up any spilled lumps of coal. Buster’s dedication to fuel economy earned him local publicity and lots of fans

🌎 Your #WITWW mystery location is Waller Miller Park in Williamsburg, Virginia. Although the manmade 360-acre lake has served as the city reservoir since 1945, the public park wasn't established until 1972. Today, it offers tons of recreational opportunities, from boating to disc golf.

🌎 What a grand view...at Grandview! This former West Virginia State Park was transferred to the National Park Service in 1990 and is now a unit within New River Gorge National Park & Preserve. Check back again next week for a new #WITWW dog-friendly destination!

🎨🐕 #ArtfulPup sightings aplenty at The Olde Pink House in Savannah, Georgia! This stately mansion opened in 1771 as Habersham House and over the years has been a bank, Civil War headquarters, bookstore, and more before its current incarnation as a fine restaurant and tavern.

🌎 Yonder's #WITWW vista is from the lawn of Jordan Pond House at Maine's Acadia National Park. The pond serves as the water supply for the nearby town of Seal Harbor. The rounded geological formations in the distance are a popular hiking destination known as the Bubbles.

🌎 There are 6 miles of dog-friendly trails that traverse today's #WITWW location: Virginia's Third Winchester Battlefield Park, site of the Battle of Opequon on 9/9/1864. Two future U.S. presidents were among those who saw action here: Rutherford B. Hayes and William McKinley.

🌎 If you've popped by the Sandstone Visitor Center at WV's New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, you'll recognize it as today's #WITWW spot! Once a school site from 1925 to 1994, it's now a gateway to the park's southern portion, where coal mining heritage and recreational activities abound.
