Spain, Switzerland, and Finland seem to have national plans for that; the key is regulation and oversight, isn't it, so you make sure that everyone has broadband at some minimum speed. You can also nationalise infrastructure via Openreach which would save a world of frustration.

Nationalising utilities, water, transport, and yes, the internet, are not. But the kiosk most definitely is. Necessary infrastructure should not be privatised. Of course you'll contract out, but do it properly with oversight.

I think there might be a case for retiring millions and billions from our vocabulary entirely, and expressing public spending as multiples of a house price.
