I understand you're point. But at some point, someone who graduated with a degree in journalism or communications has to ask the hard questions. I also understand that the 1st amendment is under attack, but this is exactly what the 1st amendment was signed into law for; to protect journalism.

But again, I'm going to always say that a game's outcome cannot be decided by officials. More plays by players and decisions of coaches have more effect on any game than an errant flag or two.

Fair. Officials should very well have to answer for their mistakes & failures, just like players & coaches. Talking CFB only here, we demand 19 year olds get behind a mic after an untimely fumble, or dropping the game-winning TD. But an errant flag isn't addressed by the ref who threw it. Valid.

100% that officials deserve criticism and critiquing. My entire preface was to not blame the outcome of a game on officiating. We're probably in agreement, just arguing two different points.

Refs are human and make mistakes; just like players. There is always a human element to officiating. Rules don't help either. Most are subjective. Until there's consistency, officiating will have a negative impact.
It's a simple recipe, execute the play. Don't leave it to the officiating.

One thing (probably the only thing) I am consistent with in all my decades of watching sports is, never blame officiating. There are always plays throughout a game which has a negative impact on any given team (missed FG/XP, fumble, INT, untimely personal foul, etc.). Don't leave it up to officials.

The good thing about all this, is it is finally over. Which means that I do not have to watch that Beavis-looking Marty Smith share absolutely no new information again. Phew
