I was privileged last year at the conference in New Zealand to witness the delegation announce that after two years they had broker their first agreement with a big international agency.
They had negotiated overnight and continued reporting to congress.

The union feared that the membership would break and accept commercial jobs without the safety of collective agreement.
They didn’t. The membership stood by their union.

They walked out of a negotiation and had the intention of dictating terms and conditions and fees to professional actors in their commercials.
For over two years they were effectively locked out. A phrase that should resonate with all Irish performers given our own labour history.
