4th gen Angeleno. Descendant of immigrants from a refugee boat called the Mayflower. Hablo español.
The media cares that their oligarch owners and the owners' friends aren't harmed financially by this. So obviously they want as little attention as possible on it.

Can't do that in the office kitchen ;-) but also i'm just not great at the pot of water method. I have some cups to sit in the water but they are a bear to clean. So, microwave is quick and easy to clean up, it's my go-to.

Well, they are, but then they need paramedics, not cops. But people call because they are afraid of the person in crisis, and so cops are what's sent. We need to start understanding that we ALL have moments of instability, but most of us have a bedroom to rage in privately.

Well, if they do ban VPNs, they will have to have carve-outs for "legitimate" business use. And then they'll find out just how many people do any freelance work, and will have to try to come up with a legal definition of business. And that's just a rabbit hole they will get lost in.

I mean, if there aren't enough good jobs, that should be blamed on the "job creators" shouldn't it?

We will let you immigrate ;-)

Yes, that is the problem we are describing.

Rarely is a behavioral health crisis a risk to others, but people find it scary and offensive when someone is having an angry argument with an invisible person. It's generally not a hazard, just an inconvenience, but people call cops anyway.

Well, grease me up and we'll see...

I love poaching eggs in the microwave though. It requires a lower power setting, except I did get the hang of it in the work microwave which has a time dial and naught else by running it 30 seconds at a time and then opening the door and lifting the towel to let them cool a little.

There have been studies where they took the same resume and put different names on them, like "John" vs "Jamal," and resumes with the "wrong" name got offered interviews like less than half as often.

They fired all the women of color who made Teen Vogue that way. This is an empty promise from empty people.

Hopefully they were picked up by archive.org.

The part she doesn't get is that no one has to be good at math anymore, or rather, it doesn't mean the same thing. You don't have to know how to calculate, the spreadsheet or Desmos will do that for you. You have to know how to ask the right questions and how to understand the output. Context.

It would be difficult to get a for-profit company to take the job of printing this info on them.

But also, feedstock costs range, but $20/ kg seems pretty doable. You can probably print a lot more than 10 whistles with a kg of feedstock.

Oh, there might be reasons to be terrified. His extremely punchable face is well-known.

In Los Angeles we have something like 15,000 shelter beds and 60,000 homeless folks.

Mental health interventions are one of those that you do NOT want a gun around for.

Behavioral health professionals with the right training can safely restrain a person. If they have an RNP on the team, they can inject tranquilizers so that the person can be safely transported to a facility.

How about pointing out that he doesn't know the real world.... Why, I bet he's never walked the streets of South LA late at night, just taking in the nightlife.

This did not affect us in our single-family home.

I gather it has something to do with efforts to divert compostable kitchen waste from landfills? Probably one 90-gallon can could handle several units' worth. We never fill ours more than halfway, and we have a (smallish) yard.

Depends. Is it a ghost fire?
November 11, 2025 at 5:59 AM
Cops, their unions, and their PR folks have worked VERY hard to convince us all that you can't possibly send unarmed responders to these situations, because they're too dangerous. Yes, we CAN blame cops, because they fight for the right to torture and kill people with mental health issues. :-/
November 11, 2025 at 12:51 AM
Yup. LA Metro has a very interesting process going on to do exactly that: their own internal police force, trained to be responsive to the situations faced by transit riders, is part of a multi-layer system that includes crisis response, homeless engagement, Ambassadors, etc. Still setting up tho

Also, anytime you are thinking about calling the cops, ask yourself, "will this situation be improved by (more) guns?" If the answer is no, don't call them.
