On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree. Ate it.

I’ve no charming memories at all of the worst periods of the pandemic. In New Zealand we locked down hard & fast, and eventually that was great for NZ, as we then had freedom to live in a Covid free country for quite some time.
But as a primary care nurse, work was horrifically busy & stressful!
What's a charming memory you have from the worst period of the pandemic?

The problem with that Whamageddon thing is that Last Christmas is a stone cold banger and trying to avoid it proves that you don't truly understand the meaning of the season, to celebrate our Lord and Savior, Saint George Michael.

I lost my sunhat & couldn’t find a replacement anywhere, all I tried on seemed huge! I know I have a very small head, when I had a motorbike, I had a child’s helmet.. so I found my new sunhat in Farmers children’s department😀
The label says “age 6 to 8 years”
(my glasses are also from a kids range)👧🏼

Today, as often happens, a patient asked me if I was sick. I knew why they were asking but I said “no why?”
“Because you’re wearing a mask” said the patient.
I said, “no, I’m not sick. If I was sick, I’d stay home. And I don’t want to get sick, so this mask is to protect me from my patients “….

I had to leave the room briefly to get a piece of equipment, leaving a woman & her 6 year-old in my room. I came back in to see the six-year-old had opened my top drawer and was in the process of removing a peppermint from its packet. Watched by their mother. Who clearly was not going to stop them😑🤯

Please stop booking your small children to see the nurse for liquid nitrogen treatment to their warts. It’s really bloody painful, the kids are traumatised by it and often it doesn’t get rid of the wart, or the wart grows back. Get some salicylic acid paste/paint treatment from the chemist. Thanks

In other words, traffic deaths are a policy choice
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

Sometimes I’m out & I see a woman about my age, accompanying an older woman who I assume is her mother, & I’m overwhelmed by a feeling of nostalgia &, I guess, envy. My Mum died when I was fifteen. I’ve never experienced having a mother as an adult myself. Several of these twosomes at my movie today

I asked my sweet delightful 88-year-old patient how she keeps active and she said she plays tenpin bowling, indoor bowling, does a walking group once a week and exercycles at home every evening while watching The Chase!!
(This is more exercise than I do at present. She’s old enough to be my mum!)🥰

Talking about a movie I’d seen & really enjoyed at the British & Irish film Festival at morning teatime, and our newish colleague said “oh God I saw that-it was crap.”
And I’m honestly not sure how I feel about that comment. Of course can have different tastes, but I’d have been more tactful….

If you’re going to Southeast Asia in one weeks time (or frankly anywhere else in Asia, Africa, Pacific Islands, South America, Eastern Europe) please don’t pop into your doctors “just to check if I need any travel vaccines” because
1: yes you do
and
2/ no we don’t have time to arrange for you

Well, I would describe that as a lot bigger than a “moderate” quake. Felt like two earthquakes merging together. Scared the crap out of me.

They’ve been talking about it for years, but it’s never happened. Just hurry up and do it!!

Two of my friends have very different personality types- one is always early and the other is always late. Off work this week & going to a movie this morning with “always early”, who said she would pick me up at 10:15 but actually arrived at 9:55….
