The U.S.'s current anti-diversity efforts are, predictably, having a direct affect on funding of #OpenSource software security efforts.

I hope other sources - both public & private - will step up to help fund the essential role of open source software stewards.
as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so. The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement,

Exciting work on BLAS/LAPACK packaging!📦

As part of bringing better BLAS/LAPACK support to Meson, Michał Górny learned a lot about how these essential libraries differ across implementations and distributions, and he is sharing it all with the community.

The PSF Grants Program has been temporarily paused after hitting our 2025 funding cap early.
It was an extremely difficult but necessary decision to ensure the program and foundation’s near and long term sustainability. Learn more on our blog: pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-...
The PSF has paused our Grants Program
Effective August 1st, 2025, the PSF is temporarily pausing our Grants Program after reaching our 2025 grant budget cap earlier than expected. We know how important this program is to many in our community and making this decision was difficult. This is a necessary step to protect both the future of the program and the short- and long-term sustainability of the PSF. (If this moves you immediately to donate to the PSF, we welcome your contributions via our donations page).

I posted this last week, asking for #Python users to fill out a silly little survey.

I got quite a few responses! I can use this! It'll be hilarious! I can still use more answers, though. I hope with a few more responses I get more obvious standouts answers.

This transition to a Public Benefit Corporation is a huge milestone for us ✨.
I am so excited about the future and the impact we will continue to have on the open source ecosystem.
"Open source should be nurtured and elevated as a public good." - Travis Oliphant

That's why Quansight just became a Public Benefit Corporation, formalizing our commitment to sustainable OSS infrastructure that powers global innovation.

We're in this for the long haul. 🙌 bwnews.pr/3HdvSQ8

For Global Accessibility Awareness Day #GAAD tomorrow, I hope that our publicly available work on accessibility and visualization is a helpful resource.

This isn't a short and sweet top-5 list of things to do but a richly documented evaluation of the ecosystem of a data science tool.
I'm officially announcing a massive collaboration that I've been able to participate in: evaluating the accessibility of the Python visualization library, @bokeh.org! 🎉

In collab with folks from @quansight.com and @anacondainc.bsky.social, we present 76 documented findings plus our summary here:

The past 5 years were an honor and a joy, because wow, OSS maintainers are a kind bunch. Grateful I got to run one last Maintainer Summit before leaving 💓

After a focused year of effort to ensure the PSF Grants Program is more responsive, transparent, and sustainable, we are pleased to present the PSF Grants Program 2024 Transparency Report, now available on our blog.
PSF Grants Program 2024 Transparency Report
The PSF’s Grants Program is a key plank in our charitable mission to promote, protect, and advance the Python programming language and to support and facilitate the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers. After much research, input, and analysis, the PSF is pleased to share the PSF Grants Program 2024 Transparency Report. The report includes context, numbers, analysis, and next steps for the Program. Similar to our PSF Grants Program 2022 & 2023 Transparency Report, this 2024 report reflects the outcome of a significant amount of work. There are some differences in the position we are in as we approached the development of this report:

Typical interaction in an #ADHD household: bumping into my partner at the house entrance.
Him: where are you going with the dog?
Me: to the groomers
H: true forgot about it
Me: where have you been?
H: had to pick up the car from the garage, I told you yesterday
Me: ah yes, I forgot about that

The last couple of weeks have been hard. This in particular feels the hardest for unknown reasons. Not having access to my #ADHD meds has created a big hole in my coping toolbox and I am experiencing ADHD burnout like never before.
I am so glad to have an extended support network right now.

My week without meds so far:
- keep having to ask what I was talking about mid way through the conversation
- inbox driven overwhelm
- forgot to drink water or eat then had a migraine
- 12 hours work day followed by 12 hours sleep
And it's only Wednesday
