Old hippie, terminal, plan to die in Austria in 2026, Lucky Man (ELP 1970) is my jam.
Seems a stretch to hang on Trump whatever happened to shooter's psyche. Afghans have maintained extreme (psych-loco) warrior culture since Alexander, perhaps more recently exacerbated by Soviets, then Taliban, then US, but all before Trump could find Afghanistan on a map. They not like us, maybe?

See Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse-Five" chapter 4, in which Billy imagines war movie in reverse, then ponder this: What if America became an enormous cornucopia of love, flooding the world with benefit, rather than a vacuum sucking up the world's wealth so that rich people can abandon the planet?

Learn a book, Seth.

Truth. The tune is a 10. Merry's vocals made it 10 squared.

Now imagine being a teenager on the edge of the draft, with images of 1968 still fresh in your memory, playing this tune on repeat, and trying to figure out your next move.

Nope. Too familiar with the history of warfare on planet Earth, as well as recognition of the fact that taking up arms against this wrong turn is precisely what the wrong turn wants in order to justify more wrong-turning.

You go, Mayor Zohran! Also, so proud of you for making a place on your team for superstar Lina Khan.

Speaking of DeMarcus Cousins, I once ran into coach for Warriors and said to him "What are going to do with Boogie" to which he replied "Don't know yet, but it's a good problem to have."

Cousins was great, could have dominated the league, but that tude....

Okay, but maybe wash that stuff down once in a while with "Oh Happy Day" by Edwin Hawkins Singers.

Dark times right now, but the tables are turning. Stand in, stay positive, stay strong, because that is how we are going to win. Love is the higher power.

And my father was also a WW2 vet, an advance scout in Patton's Third Army, and most of my memories of him are mildly painful. For him, it was untreated PTSD, depression, and Sundays with Shostakovich and Mahler. Not special. And war is not glorious.

Hahaha!

"Refugees from all over the world are pouring into Russia from all over the world. For the freedom."

Don't like the era we're moving into. Every time I see something this cute, I have to run it through an "is this AI?" reality check.
November 28, 2025 at 8:47 PM
Sure, George. And where were you during the DUHbya "war on terror" (aside from running cover for the Original Dumbass and his boss Dickless Dick Cheney)?
November 28, 2025 at 8:42 PM
Oh, c'mon. Really? An hour?

"Never give a sucker an even break or smarten up a chump."

-- W.C. Fields

Every time Trump berates someone in this manner he loses more power. All reporters need do is dutifully report the episode to the electorate.

So you know nothing about it, I see.

Masters is one of the most pretentious events in sports. Augusta has a long history of profound white supremacy, which poor, dumb Zoeller was attempting to ridicule.

"I'm not talking. Every time I talk, I get into trouble," said Lee Elder about Augusta.

And then there are Thanksgiving dinners in which Everclear on the rocks is the only rational drink.

Fuzzy was a happy-go-lucky guy and a crowd favorite. Not really smart and not a racist in the real sense of the word. Probably thought he was making an edgy joke about the ugly racist tradition at Augusta and it backfired on him. Fall guy. Poor SOB, it broke his heart and ruined his legacy.

Perry and Schon. Good Lord almighty, so great and so 80s!

The poor deprived SOB.

Live 2,000 miles away from nuclear family, which makes everyday Thanksgiving for me.

I keed. I keed nuclear family.

1970s NFL was all about Dolphins, Cowboys, and Steelers. In Chicago, we had a mediocre team, but we had Walter Payton, and that made all the difference.

So cool for the goat to finally win the championship near the end of his career. Will screen "Shuffle" this weekend in his honor. RIP, Sweetness.

Just finished Netflix doc series on the Cold War. I'd forgotten what an incredible hero Gorbi was, like a GD angel sent from heaven to save the planet from immolation.

😄 Love this! Thanks.

Gonna have to put "It's a Mad(4) World" on my watchlist. Haven't seen it in years and God knows I could use a couple hours of good laughs. Sid was so great in it.

Wow.

I have days when I tell myself that God should have stopped at cats and dogs, and then I run across an essay like this one and I think there might be a chance.
