Still an overly online Dad (recently upgraded to Autism Dad)

He/Him

Warhammer 40k, college football, parenting, politics, no discernible thought process or order
Pinned
I've been in non-stop work calls so I haven't pushed this yet, but yes @hooverstreetrag.org and I talked for nearly an hour on GI Joe, the surprisingly woke 80's cartoon about the military that was designed to sell toys
Ever wondered what it is like to sit in my class when one of my lectures goes way off the rails?

Good news, @jacketdan.bsky.social captured some of that spirit with me on the episode of @wthupod.bsky.social that dropped this morning.

Gamer brained suggestion: Fontaineism.

“Rapture was a candy store for a guy like me. Guys who thought they knew it all. Dames who thought they'd seen it all. Give me a smart mark over a dumb one every time.”

This is why I fully support losing teams playing until the final whistle. Sometimes the point is to just try because it matters for the next time
I know it's tempting to alas... nevertheless when it comes to slippery Don, but nothing ever matters until it suddenly does. You can only keep telling the truth and hoping it'll sink in for folks. And you never know what drip drip drop will be the last one it takes. Resist the urge to be hopeless.

There have been others but the first book I ever read that made me sit and think about it was Stranger in a Strange Land
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I know this clickbait but being good at math and a pleasure to be around are not and have never been mutually exclusive concepts
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

So excited for a new Burrito Taxi discourse to pop up today
I would like to take this opportunity to get on the record and apologize: I had complained about how every single thing at the grocery store now costs five dollars more than it used to, but I had not seen the latest data from DoorDash's State of Local Commerce report, which disproves that.
At some point embarrassment MUST come
