So sick! Have you tried exploring a few? How do they feel?

Before you can attain any kind of "mastery" the scene is over, the mechanic is gone, and it doesn't appear for the rest of the game. Mouthwashing pulls this trick a few times. It's scary every time because the mechanics are always new. SO COOL!

You have no time to figure out the nuances of the system, and you're not sure how your actions map to the consequences you're going to receive. This confusion, along with the setting, makes it a horrifying experience to PLAY.

Then SUDDENLY it'll drop you into a mini game with very little explanation of the rules - you wake up in an infinite cargo hold and an invisible monster gets you if you make too much noise.

Mouthwashing is not a very mechanical game, for the most part you are pointing-and-clicking your way through conversations on the ship.

Thanks for sharing your progress like this, enlightening (and satisfying) to see you chip away at it

Great thread, love how deeply you’re thinking about information, space, and culture!!

I’m obv nowhere near as deep in the sauce as you are but being able interact with dreams as clouds or something that float around the world could be another form of fuzzy, subjective info that’s grounded in space!

thats a great idea, gonna look so cool in the game’s style too!!

I’m not really interested in absolute moral lessons. I’m trying to express some perspective that I find compelling. That won’t land for everyone, but it’s my hope that it resonates with some people and that those people find it to be a fulfilling use of their time.

Thats besides the point though. If I’m not tinkering on some game I tend to go a bit coo-coo, so this kind of creation is necessary for me to live a dignified life. I’m trying to make the most of that by releasing complete works that might speak to people, but it is fundamentally selfish.

I read quite a bit at the minute! Much of my work attempts to make sense of my interpretations by presenting my interpretations in a new work of art.

I’d love to teach, but teachers are more effective once they master their field. That mastery is part of what I’m trying to achieve as well.

As in the opportunity cost of not doing something else? Would you be able to share some examples of pursuits that you think would be worth the cost?

That’s where the beauty is! All of the perspectives duke it out alongside your own experience to come to some kind of worldview. More diverse perspectives and experience offer you more resolve in the face of manipulation.

imo this is true of all art (and all other kinds of communication).

That’s the focus of some games. Others are more focussed on conveying the arguments of the designer in ways that are enhanced by the interactive medium. These kinds of experiences have reframed the real world for me, helping me to see it with more clarity.

You have to find the good stuff though.

That’s quite an open ended question! If you’re asking about games specifically then I would say that I view some games as works of art. Many of them have moved me, moved me emotionally and moved me to action, in ways that make me believe that they are a positive pursuit.
