ortho quoted me 8k to fix a crossbite, taking 2 years and possibly 6 months more with normal braces.
Am I insane or is that crazy?

Genuine question, but is it even advisable to ask a friend who's rejected you to do something together you both wanted to do before you asked them out? Or should you just wait until they reach out again.

one of the underrated factors for the rise in scamming across U.S. society is the death of local media.
It gets lost in the shuffle, but the Speaker of the House is someone who, by all rights, should’ve had his career ended a decade ago by a Shreveport TV news investigative team.
Fond memories of that time Mike Johnson was president of a local law school that never opened its doors, in part because it was attached to a Baptist college that was losing its accreditation, and in part because it was always a scam from the start

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

It’s fun to think about the surgeon who will botch your surgery 20 years from now and what he’s doing at this moment. He just ran all his homework through ChatGPT. He just read that article about vaccines and autism at the CDC website. He just watched an Instagram video about the moon landing hoax.

TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

“Short bursts indicate an ICE sighting. Long whistles indicate agents making arrests. If you hear the whistle and you’re undocumented, said [Whitney Hu, a community activist and organizer with South Brooklyn Mutual Aid], ‘you hide. And if you’re somebody who’s not, you go to the street.’”
As ICE Street Raids Ramp Up, New Yorkers Stock Up On Whistles
Taking a cue from Chicago, community groups have distributed thousands of whistles in recent weeks — a grassroots system people in other cities have adopted to help neighbors sound the alarm.

insane that we've essentially brought back Clippy, the most hated "feature" of any Microsoft product in its entire history, 22 years after consumers en masse told it to get fucked forever.

that our policies are expressly designed to avoid paying people more money so we can stash it away in a few psychos' bank accounts is just so aggravating when you consider how boneheaded this is. but no lets round up 30M immigrants and impose crippling consumption taxes and see if that helps
Was reminded that Costco is treated like a woke company but in the end it is simply a corporation, just one that actually understands the value of reputation and symbiotic relationships with other businesses and it pisses off righties for doing it correctly.
