I dedicated the latest issue of the magazine to Sega Blue Skies ☺️

I can’t decide between 1995’s Sega Rally and Outrun 2, both are equal levels of fun but very different beasts. Outrun 2 is great for a bit of laid back fun with chill jazz/groove/salsa vibes. While Sega Rally is the hardcore skim the walls to shave off milliseconds to some Japanese fusion rock/metal

Yeaaah! Bring back the #BlueSkyInGames campaign!

Game Informer wasn't any kinder, describing the game as "A Depressing Mid-Life Crisis" and scoring a 6.5, on a page where Karaoke Revolution, Ultra Bust-A-Move, and DDR Ultramix 2 all outscored it. 😞

To be fair, SFII Turbo and Super/New Challengers weren't DLC, they were season passes.

Virtual Hydlide was ahead of its time... they knew 3rd-person follow-cam jogging through the woods was going to be the trend of the future!

I've played both versions a fair amount going back and forth, and everytime I go back to the original Xbox/PS2 version, it just feels nicer, no matter how much I get used to the 360 version.

I think you're right. They definitely gave the 360 version a visual overhaul with the darker grungier look + the bright bloom and yellow filter... but I always thought they changed the physics slightly too, the cars definitely feel heavier to me.

Thanks, I hope the message gets through to the other side

I would propose it get made by Remedy’s Max Payne team.

And on that note, I still think Burnout 3: Takedown is still the best looking game in the whole series. It had a nicer color palette... especially in the Far East tracks.

I always thought the original Xbox and PS2 versions held up better. The 360 version had this dark grungy filter which made some shadowy sections like underpasses near impossible to see where you're going. That combined with the typical mid-2000s piss filter and over-bright bloom washed out details

The Sega Rally logo... it's already in seasonal festive colors!

The ‘military shooters’ like Call of Duty somehow convinced the masses that slow crouch-walking and crawling on your belly and camping around corners and heavy reliance on scoping for every type of weapon is more fun than the frantic run and gun gameplay of Timesplitters 😭
jaelin-playnao.bsky.social
Omg tell me about it! I loved all three Timesplitters games and I’m not even a big FPS fan. The fast paced arcadey gameplay, the quirky over-the-top announcer, and story mode characters, and super fun multiplayer game modes like Capture the Bag and King of the Hill!
It’s a shame it ended with 3 😔

during the 80s and 90s, videogames were either one of two things... 1) Electronic toys for kids. And 2) A cult hobby. It wasn't until the PS2 did gaming really go mainstream, thanks in part to a lot of non-gamers picking up a PS2 as a cheap DVD player that plays games as a bonus, but also GTA3.

FMV cutscenes with 90s CGI was seen as 'cutting edge' at the time. And Namco in particular invested a lot of their budget into that, with not only Ridge Racer but also Tekken.

😅 RRT4 seems to be a fan favourite online. I always thought Ridge Racers 2 on the PSP was the best in the series, at least gameplay wise.

Almost all the tracks in Sega Rally Championship are some form of fusion rock/jazz, and I love them all! Conditioned Reflex, Desert Land, and Getting Muddy live rent-free in my head for past 30 years. Power Games too, love that Japanese slap-bass! The replay music too, and My Dear Friend Rally! 🎵😊🎶🎶

Pick-up-and-play factor. No installation times or downloading updates or loading from disc. Just plug-in a cartridge and you were in the game within seconds. Also local/couch multiplayer games were in abundance, weather versus or co-op. And no shortage of arcadey ‘quick-bursts-of-fun’ gameplay.

I loved Terranigma, that was probably my second favourite RPG on the SNES after the Lufia series.
