" ... it might be the only slasher film where the killer’s identity is revealed because of a botched attempt at making cocktails."

Thank you! I’m having a blast writing it.

Another four review retrospectives are done for my upcoming book on the From Hell thrillers ('87-'96). I'm going to be speaking with legendary producer Bruce Cohn Curtis in the next couple of days!

A rare mainstream newspaper critic review for the 1983 slasher MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE. It won't come as too much of a shocker that it's not good!

In September 1984, The LA Times listed upcoming horror releases. Spot the title changes!

Early access to a new review for HATCHETMAN (2003): "A hatchet-wielding killer in a rubber skull mask is murdering exotic dancers at an LA strip club."

Haha. Now there's a suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Not heard of that one. Thanks for the suggestion!

Any suggestions for the 650th review on Hysteria Lives!? Has to be a slasher (or related) or Giallo or similar. :)

Maybe add in a vodka martini.

New Review: TERROR AT LONDON BRIDGE (1985) ***

"Admittedly, (it) leans more toward MURDER SHE WROTE than FRIDAY THE 13TH. The Ripper’s outfit and hat sometimes give the film a vague sense of the Giallo genre, probably unintentionally."

Exactly. No commercial film is made to lose money (unless it’s a tax right off). Where were the claims of the greedy producers behind the Bond movies or the Star Wars franchise?
jakerswell.bsky.social
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I know a lot of people who enjoy the series but have a broader taste when it comes to movies (myself included). Bad reviews are one thing, but when people say that Jason Lives is objectively worse for children than porno it is reactionary and ridiculous.

I think some of the critics saw these as some kind of sport to find nothing positive to say.

Hmmm. Spot the problem here ...
