People - dunno who - have come up with the concept of "Christian nationalism" for such nonsense. Since "Christian nationalism" is surely an oxymoron, I have taken it to mean the wearing of Christianity as a badge of identity, rather than knowing, believing or following anything about the religion.

My recollection - not to be relied upon - is that he was named as Huard's successor, but it was decided he would play one final, farewell game as a player, with Wally Highsmith assuming the interim coach role for that one game. But they may have left the question of his retirement up in the air.

Steve Simmons has been arguing for the same thing. The category is not "coach" but "builder", and I don't think there's any question that Cahill made a massive contribution to the game as a "builder". His bravado, his blarney and his knack for signing big-name players attracted a lot of eyeballs.

Yes, and that was his first experience of pro football. For a kid like that, sitting in a dressing room with Dick Thornton, Mel Profit, Gene Mack, Bill Symons, Ed Harrington, Dave Raimey, Charlie Bray, and Peter Martin must have been seriously memorable.

Not a lot of sports where a grudge from 1963-64 is still alive.

Yes: if you exclude all the asterisked coaches on page two, you get down to 46.

Those are interim coaches, pretty much all of whom had the opportunity to shake off the "interim" label but failed. If you start excluding them (not unreasonable) you may get near (or to) the number 46 used by Pinball yesterday.
