I never thought I would see transmission permitting in the BlackRock annual letter but here we are…
Thank you @dkthomp.bsky.social and @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social (bot) for shining a light on these issues. #energysky

This week, FERC Commissioner Rosner sent a letter to RTOs/ISOs on interconnection automation. I don't think most #energysky folks understand how important this is.
Pic 1 is a rough chart of a current bulk interconnection study.
Pic 2 is NREL's LA100 study. I find visuals helpful so let me explain.

Today, MISO approved a historic portfolio of regional transmission projects. LRTP Tranche 2.1 represents $21B investment in 24 high-voltage lines across the Midwest.
This process is a prime example of proactive, long-term, & stakeholder-driven planning that embodies how Order 1920 should work! 🔌💡

NERC quietly filed the final Interregional Transfer Capability Study (ITCS) with FERC yesterday.
An additional 35GW of transfer capability across the United States was identified as being beneficial for reliability... shocker.
Comments at FERC are open for 60 days and links below.

In all US net zero scenarios, installed capacity of “firm” generation sources remains in line with current levels with ~500-1,000GW (vs. ~875GW today), even "100% RE." Chart from @davidpaolella.bsky.social
This issue is very similar to Tx in 2015. Let's not make the same mistakes and get to work...
