Started work on designing the ‘Backglass’ part of my virtual pinball table, where the scores go. First things first, making a beautiful production still of ‘Norbot’ turn into ‘Gnarlybot’ via good old layer masks, adjustment layers and shape blends!

Thanks to my friend Liz, who created this awesome “kickflippin’ chicken” illustration, I’ve now got a bit of Feathers action going on in my virtual pinball table. That grey skull ‘grip tape’ will actually have a flashing pinball light behind it, so it should look rad!

Man, this beauty hasn’t aged a day! I LOVE the pomposity and indulgence of Godspeed so much. 20 minute songs, unsearchable album names, album artwork with zero information on it, no press or interviews. I love it all. ❤️

Oh and for context, *this* is where ‘Gnarlybot’ comes from. He was my sculpture design for the ‘Gromit Unleashed 3’ charity arts trail, which saw artists reinterpreting Wallace, Gromit, Feathers & Norbot. My design was all about paying game to 80’s skateboard visual excess!

This is my reskin of that same playfield. To keep things simpler I’ve kept all the insert lights and everything else in the exact same place. This is my first time doing anything like this, so wanted to keep it as simple as possible!

For context, this is the playfield of ‘Radical’, which was my starting point. It’s the perfect theme too, as my ‘Gnarlybot’ design is all about paying homage to 80’s fluro skateboarding so it’s the perfect table to reskin!

I am STOKED on my latest progress with ‘GNARLYBOT’ - my reskin of the 1990 pinball table ‘Radical!’. The past 3 nights I’ve put in a tonne of work to make the playfield and plastics all custom (with still a lot more to do!) but I am really thrilled with how it’s looking!!

Man, I love shooting on my X100V! I don't ever shoot RAW, I just dial in a recipe I like and go for it!

Woohoo! Addressable LED strips now mounted underneath my playfield TB via some trunking I designed & 3D printed which sync directly with what’s happening in the game! (After much support and help from the visual pinball chat discord! 👏)

It’s taken a while, and I’ve made a million rookie mistakes along the way, but I’ve now got addressable LED strips that react based on whatever is happening inside the VPX pinball software!
