In my family, when there is a big occasion, you gift the family a rose bush. So I took the Amtrak from DC to NYC with a potted rose bush to attend to a bestie’s kid’s bris. I had to take the subway from Penn Station at rush hour so I walk onto a super crowded train with a potted rose bush. (1/2)
if you're not from or have never been to new york i cannot stress enough how normal the subway is 99% of the time. kids take it to school. everyone is basically chill. you learn to be in proximity with harmless weirdos or minor irritations pretty quick. for all its issues it's an incredible thing

When I was a global health photojournalist, I documented children with measles, whooping cough, malaria, polio, meningitis, and so many horrible diseases. You can't "shake off". It won't "increase their immunity". It can be horribly painful, disfiguring, and life ending. This pain is preventable.
Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk.
More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year.
