Then we aren’t it Doc. If track record matters then go on your own journey.

Doesn’t it depend on what you are showing/pitching?

Publisher?

Complex question and I believe you know it. Difference between recoup and repay for one thing. Difference between taking IP or or not. Difference between milestones (pub has cut) or not. And so many more aspects.

Wow. With or without a publisher? Scratch that - on a journey of developing a game, how are you persuaded to not do it?

Magic 😉

We never claim IP. We don’t have any cutting rights or milestones. We don’t dictate what the game should or should not be.

Absolutely. There is no cookie cutter approach. Just like Raw Fury has something that works great for some developers (not all), there are scenarios where self publishing makes sense.

Depends on the type of game. Sometimes EA makes total sense.

The magic moment. That thing that makes you lean in and come back an hour later. If you can transcribe that in an animatic or an early build with programmer art, then go for it. But that’s the key.

I think there is a role. We all face the same obstacles. Discovery and curation chief among them. And if we want to keep the Art in this artistic medium - and not just the more commoditized aspect of entertainment, or the functional aspect of mechanics - then we need to make sure indies thrive.

Tough one. I am personally in favor of developers engaging early - both with publishers (if that’s the route they want to take) and with gamers in general.

It is certainly tougher than a couple of years ago but it is refreshing to see new options coming up. Like Outer Sloth and what Hooded Horse have been doing. Things go in waves and there will be another one here. We just need to make sure Indie is kept safe, as that is where the Art lives.

No I don’t think so. Perhaps “micro strategy” is a red thread but even that is a bit thin. I think we have strived to find Magic across genres and any sort of classical lines.

Johan also has an excellent nose for games and good devs along with a really honest and people first approach to life.
