The author responds to the comment beneath an FT article “Only the FT would have an article with the words eigenvalues and eigenvectors without a corresponding explanation. A Google search brought me to a site called, Math is Fun, (Oh, really? Could have fooled me). I suggest a follow up article with a Page 3 girl discussing quadratic equations. I'll bet that would get a lot of views.” by saying “Listen, Bostonian; the Economist is over there. For those of us who don’t need telling that J P Morgan is a bank, the FT remains a temple.”

I've seen/heard others make similar complaints about the BBC's news output.
As I haven't got a TV Licence I only consume the BBC's output online and via radio.
And I'd say the World Service and "From Our Own Correspondent" do at least cover the "Global South" in sufficient depth.

More Americans visited its website in October than they did ABC, CBS, NBC or the Wall Street Journal. Put simply, the BBC is a trusted, growing voice in America and it appears to quite like this status. But why should Britain’s national broadcaster, paid for by British households, spend more and more money covering America and be drawn further into its deepening psychodramas? I don’t need to know the complex structures of BBC funding to understand that I am being fed ever more of the American-news circus, whereas British politics is comparatively under-scrutinised, especially at the local level."

The BBC's John Simpson tweets "The Times was always one of my newspapers of choice. It was stodgy and slow, but it strove for accuracy and avoided the Murdoch agenda where possible. And it wasn’t barking mad like the Telegraph. Now, though, it’s changed. When the FT is available, why choose The Times?"

I have an MBA in "Business Development and Creation", kind of sabbatical after my former employer went bankrupt. And I already had a semiconductor physics PhD with some 103 papers and patents. I sold my first software age 16, a beer bottle label printing optimization. Then came jobs with a sewing factory accounting. And I was member of the Siemens Student Circle, where I learned about half of the stuff in long weekend and summer seminars. Then a high precision manufacturing control system, I needed for my PhD anyways, and sold it to repeated customers. But it was not scaling, so no future. My next product idea, over 15 years ago, was investment automization, but talking around I then understood, that only a few people really need that and the rest a psycho or a priest. Unsuitable for me. In the US was a chance, even a competitor, but I wanted to stay in Germany. In our summertime program at Berkeley de Haas, we were shown 10 "promising" startups, for 8 I said, this will not fly, and for 2, I don't understand the business. I, age 43, got reprimanded for my negativity, but all 8 failed, in 2 cases taking each half a billion down the tube. I then wondered whether I could be helpful with the other planned start ups, but the age difference and experience was too different. In hindsight the MBA was a waste of time and money, but feeling much more confident in my judgement. The Stanford Garage is the former d-school."

According to the International Energy Agency, Norway's energy mix in 2023 was 43.5% hydro, 25% oil, 16.2% gas, etc. whereas the UK's was 37.8% gas, 35.8% oil, etc.
