Movie recommendations on Sunday and book recommendations on Monday. Now I added Comics Recommendations for Saturday. Tell your loved ones about Catturd Tuesdays. It’s not much of a description but if I don’t mention it, I won’t remember it at my age.
Monday Book Recommendation: The Book of Skulls was written by Robert Silverberg, a writer who specialized mainly in science fiction. However, 99% of what happened in this book can happen in real life and possibly the remaining 1% too.

Sunday Movie Recommendation: Computer Chess is a dark and inventive film set in the very early days of computer gaming. A group of programmers get together to play chess and find there is much more to the “game” than they can imagine.

Saturday Comics Recommendation: Hyde Street is probably my favorite Ghost Machine title right now. Great characters, fabulous artwork, and wonderful world building.

I don’t care if you are wearing a suit and tie. If everyone else has to wear shoes, so should you.

Overdue Monday Book Recommendation: Prince Ombra is a book that not many people talk about today. It’s about a little boy tasked with defeating an evil presence that corrupts everything and everyone around him.

I think I got a sneak peek.

Sunday Movie Recommendation: Slacker is perhaps the greatest punk cinema since Repo Man. It’s not for those who are stuck on setting, conflict, and resolution but watching scenes flow into each other on a shoestring budget works for me.

Saturday Comics Recommendation: Yellow is about a near future American Civil War and a soldier whom everyone thinks is a coward but becomes very courageous when he finds the right mission.

No Woodman?

Monday Book Recommendation: I don’t read many biographies but I love If Chins Could Kill. Campbell is fascinating, hilarious, and positive even through some lean times before he became famous. I never knew that it was so difficult to make The Evil Dead. Thank them for what they went through.
November 18, 2025 at 4:54 AM
Overdue Monday Book Recommendation: The Time Ships is an extremely ambitious sequel to HG Wells’s The Time Machine. It gives us Dyson spheres, alternate dimensions, sympathetic Morlocks, and some HG Wells Easter eggs.
November 18, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Overdue Monday Book Recommendation: Zombie is proof to the old adage “Hell is other people”. Especially when other people are Dahmeresque serial killers. Short and not quite as creepy as the Mar-a-Lago guest list, but still creepy.

I forgot the poster thumbnail. Apologies.

Heavier Trip is a little bit inferior to the first film but it’s still got a lot of great laughs. I also love how BABYMETAL effortlessly wins over “sellout hater” Xytrax with catchy pop melodies and by being just generally sweet natured.

You know what one those real problems is. It’s you, you goddamn son of a bitch!!!
November 16, 2025 at 1:43 AM
Saturday Comics Recommendation: Accident Man is an utterly insane tale of a killer who makes it all look like an accident. Also, watch both Accident Man movies. Perry Benson completely owns the sequel.
November 16, 2025 at 1:31 AM
Overdue Saturday Comics Recommendation #2: The Last of the Independents is incredibly enjoyable old fart noir in the tradition of The Friends of Eddie Coyle. It’s not realistic but you root for the old man while he’s kicking ass.
November 16, 2025 at 1:23 AM
Overdue Saturday Comics Recommendation #1: Decorum is like a far future version of The Kingsman because both deal with the importance of manners and the readiness to kill in less than a moment’s notice. My favorite character is the foul mouthed muscle bound female drill instructor.

Meanwhile, this old cooze is free to spread his Satanic spawn.

I watched Ballerina last night. It didn’t reinvent the wheel but it provided plenty of much needed cinematic violence and gore. I’m a firm believer in violence and gore in movies.
November 14, 2025 at 7:04 PM
Sunday Movie Recommendation: It’s almost 40 years old but The River’s Edge is just as timely today as it was then. It’s based on the true murder of Marcie Renee Conrad in Milpitas, California.
November 9, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Overdue Sunday Movie Recommendation: Dark Star is one of the craziest films in one of the craziest decades of filmmaking: the 1970s. John Carpenter was doing Douglas Adams before Douglas Adams.

Save me Jesus!!! Save me Buddha!!! Save me Tom Cruise!!! Steve Bannon just threatened me with the best time possible!!!

I watched Bob Roberts back in 2016. I am sorry if I offend any fans here but I felt like the satire was hopelessly dated even in 2016. What a fictional Bob Roberts did in private a very real Trump does in public without fear of consequences.

Overdue Monday Book Recommendation #2: So many things I want to say about The Man Who Fell to Earth. Let’s just say it’s one of the most aptly named novels ever when you stop and think about it.
