I believe that Mr Chesterfield was probably a spaniel owner.
Mum disapproves wholeheartedly of me using the sofa for this purpose!

I think I'd quite like to go back to writing my YA historical fiction. Maybe something set a little later - I haven't attempted a historical one set after the 16th century.
Thanks, @stompermcewan.com, for hosting #HistFicMay and forcing me to get my head back into writing 😂

Time of day for writing? Well, after tasks are completed but before I get too tired!

My writing space is just anywhere in the house!
I particularly like this picture of me writing Gothic Horror in the conservatory!

Absolutely to sequels and prequels!
One of the stories I most enjoyed writing began as a standalone novel and then became a trilogy set over 64 years - each one with a different protagonist but with one central character running through them all.

Historical accuracy definitely matters. A lot. That said, I think research should inspire a first draft, not hamper it, so I research the bits I'm super-interested in before/during the first draft production. Other things are caught during a redraft.

There's not really as much suspense as the #BBC is hoping for here.

I love to have some real people and places in my historical fiction - sometimes they play central roles!
But, for Gothic Horror, I don't tend to include real people in case descendants get upset, and my settings are generally fictional too.

The Victorian and Edwardian eras witnessed such drastic advances in technology that the world was changing before people's eyes. Yet so much old superstition was retained at the same time.
This makes it *perfect* for tales of the supernatural.

WIP#1: Westloch House in @theflowcountry.bsky.social at the very end of the Victorian era.
WIP#2: Nethercliffe Grange in Haxey, Lincolnshire, in the immediate fallout of the Tay Bridge Disaster (randomly!)

I write YA contemporary fiction. My YA novel, Honour's Rest, was named a "top book for teens" in The Scotsman: my claim to fame!

Here is a regal pupper to start your day!
Unfortunately, he was unimpressed by his little sister's input.
