Human Rights Watch identified OFAB-250 and FAB-series unguided air-dropped bombs. These weapons have wide-area effects with limited accuracy, making strikes on populated areas indiscriminate under international law and apparent war crimes when deliberate or reckless.

Nyala, home to over 800,000 residents, has been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces since October 2023. SAF has intensified airstrikes since late 2024 as RSF uses Nyala airport as a drone base.

Our new @hrw research on how the Burkinabè military led an operation in which VDPs (pro-government militias) massacred at least 130 civilians and possibly several hundred. The JNIM then carried out a series of retaliatory attacks killing at least 100 civilians.
