I liked that, although I was never much of a fan - couldn't stand 'I Need Love' and with 'Mama Said...' I thought he was trying too hard. I don't think 'hip hop’s core audience had become more conservative' either - the genre hadn't yet peaked: embracethemargin.blogspot.com/2020/01/line...

Some people might forget, but for a long while in the '80s Eddie Murphy was HUGE. He was also very cool - kids in the know at my school were watching quoting his stand-up.

Thanks for the tip off. 'Trees' in particular is beautiful - I've used it to round of this year's compilation (I did actually buy it, btw. I just use Spotify as a kind of repository): open.spotify.com/playlist/1ri...

The Hack's on it and that's quite good, even if only because, while watching it, for the first time in my life I felt an odd nostalgia for the 2000s. It's not even a decade to which I can attach anything like an identifiable fashion or style, but somehow it conveyed one.

Oh, it wasn't that bad. I was just skint, and the short-term contracts I was taking on were badly paid, dispiriting, and ultimately led nowhere. But I was fit and healthy and I was cycling a lot, which kept my spirits up. Your situation sounds way more stressful than mine ever was.

Another great read. Incidentally, The Field were also the backdrop to a bit of a rough time in my life (although not half as rough as yours, by the sounds of it): embracethemargin.blogspot.com/2018/04/line...
