We are even getting a nor’easter as far down the coast as Georgia! We’ve been having tidal flooding that is typical but buckets of rain at once will make the causeway to my parent’s place dicey.

Thank you! Still working on the inside though thankfully the drawers and cubbies are in good shape. Just the desk surface is in bad shape but fixable. I hate to try and apply veneer to curving surfaces but I think I’ll be lucky with the wood on the drawers once it’s sanded well & re-stained.

Just finished one that had some serious rain damage

This piece from my Grandmother was left in an outdoor shed where it got water damage and one foot “claw” almost gone. I can match the claw with some careful millwork but it should have never been left to rot in these conditions!

Still work to do on the interior but this shows what basic TLC can do. Cleaned with Formby’s but no stripping. Lots of rubbing with walnut oil and a bit of microcrystalline wax on the nice bits. Will have to either remove the veneer on the drawers and replace or clean up and stain what’s underneath. The insides of the drawers are beautiful so new veneer might not be needed.

We did save money ultimately because our heating bills were so much lower and there were no worries about power outages. But wow! The guys who moved it had a special lifter for soapstone since it can crack. They were also able to remove some panels. But worth every dollar!
