Then, say we want to teach three new books in each of four grade levels for a school with 2,000 students. You just spent 60k on books. Schools don’t have that kind of money, so changing which books are taught is a very slow process.

It’s important to note (for better or worse) that often the books we can teach are dictated by what’s already available on campus in large numbers. Changing just one text for a high school course can cost $5,000-10,000 depending on the cost per book and number of students. #edusky

I know there's a type of person who desperately wants to believe students aren't assigned books anymore, but here's a list of the most frequently taught books by 6-12 grade teachers (n=~4,000).

Sure looks like a lot of books. Wild how many are the same ones I read in HS 3 decades ago.
