🦋 Update: Four of our five caterpillars successfully metamorphosed into butterflies. One met an unfortunate end ( we have the bug csi on the case!😅)We released them on the playground yesterday.

We came into school this morning and discovered 5of the 6 caterpillars were nestled in their chrysalises!

We have caterpillars! Six, to be precise. They are growing fast, and should make their chrysalises by Friday. 🤞 Then, in a couple of weeks, hopefully, they will emerge while the children are in class. 🐛🦋

My grandmother would have been 110 today. Starting in 1974, she not only celebrated her birthday, but also the day Nixon left Washington. (He resigned on 8/8, but left the next day). She abhorred the man. So, if you are so inclined, lift a glass to Edie & Hope for the departure of another criminal.🥂

Early this morning, some of my students and I watched a bumblebee crawl into this bloom. If you look, you can see the black of the bee’s tail end. We had quite the discussion about what it was doing. Consensus: Not only was it gathering nectar, it was also looking for a cool spot!
