Went to numerous shops today in an attempt to find either a) a long cardigan or b) a normal ish sunhat that fits my daftly small head. Apparently none of these things are currently available in shops and I'll have to look online instead. But why?

There are a couple of people in long sleeves and one in a coat (!) though..

Off to the theatre for the afternoon. I struggle with freezing in air con. As a result I'm one of few people carrying a cardigan on the tube in a heatwave. The theatre might not even have air con..

Think of all the page turns though..

My printer seems to think this is an appropriate size for sheet music..

..I think I had to have a separate bank account to pay the grant into than my usual bank account and just ended up using it as a holding account. I've done it for subsequent projects too, though I've not run a project with such a large budget since so it's not been on the same scale.

I honestly can't remember! It was a few years ago now. The majority of the grant was funding other people (another creator, then lots of paying performers and venues) so there was no way I was counting it all as my own income temporarily!

Oooh! For a similar project, I had a separate bank account that the grant sat in and I then paid everyone from that. I didn't count the grant as my income but made sure invoicing for my portion of it (which was my income, if you see what I mean) balanced across the two years..

My new printer sings to me and I'm very happy about it. When I ask it to print something it plays a chord, then sings an upward scale, finishing on the major 7th and adding a trill!

Currently doing the typical composer procrastination of ignoring the music I need to be writing because I reallyreally want to write the fun piece that just popped into my head..

If you're in Southampton at the end of the month, you should go to The Stage Door and hear them sing some of the songs from @firebrigademusical.bsky.social (the musical I'm writing with @jennipinnock.com and @helenarney.bsky.social !)

A poster showing a woman singing. It's for an event called 'Showtime', on the 24th of May at the Stage Door in Southampton.

This one is voice and piano! I do love a song cycle with additional forces though..

Today is International Workers' Memorial Day. In the 1870s many lost their lives in the coprolite diggings of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire. There is no memorial to them. #IWMD2025
