This is some fun MPB, Tim’s got a great voice and the opener Corone Antonio Bento is the Standout. #5debutalbums7074

Good debut. Idris’s own compositions are the stand outs By The Red Sea and Wander with couple jazz renditions of Super bad and Charlie and the 103rd’s Express Yourself.

This is a lot better then expected it’s starts strong with the stand outs: Pay Day Give Away and Rainy Day Resolution. He does shape shift a bit sounding like JJ Cale and then more country and gospel numbers, then later are pretty decent. #5debutalbums7074

Not my favourite but there is some ok stuff in here. 10cc I generally I find I like them more from and instrumental/ arrangement stand point as they are so hit and miss lyrically. This one’s a bit too jokey. #5debutalbums7074

Cymande self titled. It’s a great album. Bra the big stand out. It will get votes, deservingly so. #5debutalbums7074

Haroumi Honsono pre Yellow Magic Orchestra and pre synth sounds and electronic music. It’s not a bad debut, nothing really jumps. It was inspired by American music and surrondings close to US air base. There’s some great percussion sounds and it’s well arranged throughout. #5debutalbums7074

Giorgio Moroder debut Son of My Father. Lot of fun wierd stuff, Automation and Tears ( which feels most like a Moroder song) are the standouts. Another great cover IMO. #5debutalbums7074

Little Beaver’s debut Joey. No where near as solid as his 1975 release Party Down. But man a hell of a cover and the album closes well with Katie Pearl and Two steps away from the Blues. #5debutalbums7074

Looking Glass self titled. Brandy is such a fun song, I feel like it’s a deep rooted AM radio memory for me. The rest of the album is solid straightforward rock. Golden Rainbow generic feel good stuff and Dealin with Devil has some great piano work. #5debutalbums7074

Both of these are great; Food for Thought is a classic with Gimme Some More. Then Fred Wesley takes over as band leader (not sure if that counts as its own separate distinction) the name sake opening track has a great intro that’s worth checking out. #5debutalbums7074

Kool and The Gang self titled, pretty straightforward early funk. Mostly instrumentals. #5debutalbums7074

Funkadelic self titled, its a lot of repetitive long plays, they’re all great grooves, so if your in the head space it’s pretty good listen . I’ll Bet is the stand out. #5debutalbums7074

The South Side Movement self titled, Sly inspired funk, and a very good funk album all in all. I’ve Been Watching You is the stand out, the whole album is really well executed, also has great Superstition cover. I think it’s more popular as a sample album. #5debutalbums7074

Steely Dan’s debut Can’t Buy A Thrill. I think this will be widely considered a contender. But beyond Do It Again, Dirty Work and Reelin In The Years ( all incredible songs), the album is pretty weak and maybe unlistenable. #5debutalbums7074

The J. Geils Band self titled. Energy wise they had it from the Jump, Peter Wolf is a great vocalist/ songwriter, lot of covers from Smokey, John Lee and Al Perkins. Wait is the standout. Who doesn’t want to cheer for a band whose harmonica/ horn player is called Magic Dick lol. #5debutalbums7074

Bobby Charles solo debut. This is really great album, southern boppy and bluesy folk numbers. Small Town Talk is the standout but the whole album is pretty solid throughout. #5debutalbums7074

A mid debut. I’m Sorry is the stand out for me, Fall in Philly is ok. They just didn’t seem to have any idea who they were and the whole album sounds like them being unsure of what they are trying to do. #5debutalbums7074

A debut in name only, as this is pretty jammed packed with legacy rockers, Mick sings the hook on the opener and Kieth playing on a number tracks as well as George Harrison on Far East Man which he wrote with Wood.
A great “debut” #5debutalbums7074

Little Feat self titled. It’s got some great stuff, but sadly the worst version of Willin I’ve ever recorded. But Hamburger Midnight and 44 blues/ How Many More Years and I’ve been The One. Lowell Is always great. #5debutalbums7074

Stealers Wheel self titled, pretty front ended album with Late Again and Stuck in the Middle with you being the stand outs. The late John Patrick Byrne cover art ( Tilda Swentons partner) I believe he did all three of their albums and both of Gerry’s #5debutalbums7074

The Sutherland Brothers Band self titled, pretty chill, no real stand outs, solid with nothing awful either. It was a nice listen, not sure if it has much to bring me back again. #5debutalbums7074

ZZ top’s First Album, really straight forward to the point of being a bit boring. #5debutalbums7074
November 26, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Fantastic Gospel album, really accessible by way of some incredible piano playing and arrangements . Like A Ship and Nobody Knows are the stand outs, but Wonderful has outstanding playing on it aswell. #5debutalbums7074
November 26, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Love’s Arthur Lee goes solo with Vindactor . A lot of straightforward rock here, some decent guitar jams. The Stand out is Everybody’s Gotta Live, which is a really outstanding track. #5debutalbums7074
November 26, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Asha Puthli, I like the funkier songs on this a lot more then the love songs ( though I Am A Song is pretty great). She has a super distinctive voice and range. The stand outs Right Down Here and I Dig Love (which I swear starts with a bong rip). And just an awesome cover. #5debutalbums7074
