The Museum of Fine Arts Arts in Montréal (Musée des Beaux Arts) has an exciting collection of art! These ones show costume beautifully and I really enjoy the way the paintings simulates different textures in the textiles

Something a bit different for #WorldWetlandsDay this year.

Thought we’d combine my love of wetlands with @jerrymoorecostume.bsky.social amazing puppet making skills and make:

“The Old Man of the Wetland” complete with his sphagnum-inspired staff!

Might need to write him a back story now…

Did you know…
In the seventeenth century, it was quite proper to leave your Christmas decorations up until Candlemas Eve - February 1st - according to the poet Robert Herrick, at least.
So I hope you haven’t all been too hasty in taking them down.

Oh that’s a very good point. That would certainly explain it. There are differences in some sentences, but essentially the same book. Maybe the author decided to update it while they had the chance

Can’t be repeated often enough

‘The UK’s creative industries are vital to the economy. Valued at £124bn, they are worth more than the life sciences, aerospace and automotive industries combined. Arts and culture alone contribute an impressive £34.6bn.’

I thought I was going mad, but then realised a book I have, that was published in 2020, is exactly the same as a book by the same author, but with different titles and publishers, published in 2004. I can’t quite work out how they got away with that!

Historic dress can be an unreliable narrator of its own story & it takes the quest of looking to follow traces of its past. This dress was originally made in the 1830s, its silhouette testament to origins but stitch lines & shapes offer the mark of later, 1850s, alterations #augustaauctions 🗃️🪡

I don't see many long threads on here, but I'll try one - it's about Holbein's Ambassadors, his 1533 masterpiece in the National Gallery. It's often presented as a great mystery, but I think once we understand the circumstances in which it was made, its meaning becomes clearer.
