Citing the “martyrdom” of Charlie Kirk, Texas AG Ken Paxton says his office is pursuing sweeping undercover investigations into “leftist” groups. “To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
"Leftist political terrorism is a clear and present danger. Corrupted ideologies like transgenderism and Antifa are a cancer on our culture and have unleashed their deranged and drugged-up foot soldiers on the American people," said Attorney General Paxton. "The martyrdom of Charlie Kirk marks a turning point in America.
There can be no compromise with those who want us dead. To that end, I have directed my office to continue its efforts to identify, investigate, and infiltrate these leftist terror cells. To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
The radical Left has incubated an environment where political violence is not only justified but celebrated and praised. In July, nearly two dozen armed leftists connected to various Texas-based Antifa-like groups ambushed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE") facility in Alvarado, Texas. On September 10, 2025, a leftist assassin connected to the radical transgender movement murdered Charlie Kirk because of Kirk's bold support for truth, love of country, and unshakable faith. Two weeks later, another deranged leftist opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas.
President Donald Trump has officially designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and instructed his administration to "utilize all applicable authorities to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations — especially those involving terrorist actions — conducted by Antifa." Building on President Trump's bold actions, Attorney General Paxton has instructed his office to initiate sweeping investigations into radical leftist organizations engaged in or providing support to those performing political violence.

“The source told CBS News that [Kash Patel and Dan Bongino] asked for "large, beefy" agents to conduct an arrest of Comey "in full kit," including Kevlar vests and exterior wear emblazoned with the FBI logo.” The leadership of the FBI is now in the hands of infantile psychopaths.
The FBI is weighing an arrest and perp walk for Comey — and suspended an agent for refusing to help, sources say
The FBI is considering carrying out a "showy" arrest and perp walk of the agency's now-indicted ex-Director James Comey, sources tell CBS News.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

That’s entirely your choice, but that’s a purity test of its own.
jessicahuseman.bsky.social
I’d say ignoring problems because you like someone’s politics is a far more obvious purity test than a basic conflict of interest.

There's always someone finding something wrong with anyone trying to do their best to fight the good fight. I am weary of the purity-test folks. If they were offered a spot in a lifeboat as the TItanic was sinking, they would likely refuse because the lifeboat wasn't made with union labor.

This is something that’s been bothering me. Folks often dont know the difference between commentary/journalism. Commentators benefit from not discussing the nuance by co-opting the appearance of journalistic standards. We see it repeat with influencers and journalists pay as trust continues to erode

It’s perfectly acceptable to like the work of his firm and also 1) acknowledge that he makes money off many of the cases his reporters are covering and 2) understand that fundraising for non profit journalism shouldn’t work like that at all.
jessicahuseman.bsky.social
I don’t think calling yourself a journalist and fundraising off coverage you personally profit from is the right thing. Sorry.

A former student with whom I've kept in touch over the 15+ years since she graduated works for his firm. All that I can say from the single perspective/interaction is that he and his colleagues are doing the right thing.

It doesn’t “piss me off,” but straight advocacy being passed off and accepted as journalism just because the viewer agrees with the viewpoint is a huge part of why we are here now. That makes me sad.
jessicahuseman.bsky.social
Also not journalism
str8grandmother.bsky.social
I can see you have strong views on this.
I think we are seeing a new type of journalism today.
Journalist has a different definition than what it used to. And as a REAL Prof Journalist this prolly pisses you off.
Media is different now, look at @meidastouch.com
You can be both a lawyer & Media org

Media Matters shouldn't be paying for this at all. a big firm should be doing this pro bono. this is about basic press freedom.

and Elias, if they stand by their convictions, shouldn't be charging them. if they don't have the capacity to take the case for free, they shouldn't have taken it.

Here's what the article says:
In early February, frustrated by what some at Media Matters saw as the high cost and slow pace of their lawyers at the influential Democratic firm Elias Law Group, the advocacy group began transitioning the X cases to different law firms. An Elias lawyer notified the group that it owed roughly $4 million.

“We understand this case has been and remains very difficult for everyone involved, as was Musk’s intention when he brought it,” Ezra Reese, the chair of Elias’s political law group, wrote in an email to Mr. Carusone and Media Matters’s lead fund-raiser, Mary Pat Bonner.

Mr. Reese offered to wipe away about half of the unpaid tally in exchange for payment of $2.25 million within about a week. If the group did not commit to the payment plan, Mr. Reese wrote, his firm would expect full payment of the original amount and would “go pens down and take steps to withdraw from the case by the end of the month.”

The ultimatum did not sit well inside Media Matters.

“You must be kidding!!” Ms. Bonner responded to Mr. Reese. “This is how you treat people who have been clients for 16 years and are friends?”

I don’t call people by nicknames if I dont know them. Do you make a practice of that?
jessicahuseman.bsky.social
Journalists don’t make money from the events they write about, I’m not sure why that’s hard for you to grasp.
