The 1965 law has not been repealed or overturned.

It ties the hands of the US President under our Constitution.

His urges to return us to the poisons of the distant past are just that, urges.

He has no power to act on them unless and until Congress gives him that authority.

Calling those laws “racist” is not an opinion.

The co-author of the 1924 act, which had cemented pan-Asian and African exclusion, wrote in the NY Times that his goal was to “preserve the race”.

That law was created in 1965 explicitly and specifically to bar future presidents from returning to the days of Asian and African exclusion under the prior laws of 1882, 1917, 1921, and 1924.

The President cannot ban people from developing countries—categorically—from immigrating.

He cannot even set special, lower quotas for those countries.

Our laws bar him from even trying.

It does not matter how much the most racist nativists would enjoy it if he could.
