Last night's dinner was braised Belgian endive, wrapped in prosciutto then covered with béchamel and gruyere cheese. Baked in a hot oven until brown and bubbly. Green salad on the side for "healthy" and a nice glass of wine.

Recipe from David Leibovitz.

Cold gray day here with sleet -> freezing rain -> plain old rain, so it was time to make some cookies. Plus I can cross this batch off of the Xmas list.

Rose and Almond Ghriba adapted from "Casablanca: My Moroccan Food” by Nargisse Benkabbou. Made with almond flour, rosewater and cardamom.

One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

In NYC for a long weekend so we decided to check out Scarr’s Pizza.

First heard about it from @beerinator.com and just saw the cookbook recommended by @wordloaf.org so it must be good, right? It is. Excellent pie!

Highly recommend the hot boi (pepperoni, jalapeño and hot honey)

Some hachiya persimmons I bought last week were finally nice and squishy so time to make a persimmon cake. A glob of maple whipped cream and because it was Thursday, a wee dram of Armagnac.

Can we count on you to do the right thing and add your name to this list @booker.senate.gov and @kim.senate.gov?
UPDATE — With Rep. Pramila Jayapal (Chair Emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus), there are now at least 12 congressional Democrats, 15 Democratic-aligned organizations, and 8 Democratic candidates calling for Chuck Schumer to resign as leader:

Vegetable lo mein for dinner last night. Shiitakes, carrot, red bell pepper, green beans and Napa cabbage. Couldn't find snow peas but found that julienned green beans work amazing well. Big dollop of chili crisp at the table.

Disgusted with @shaheen.senate.gov and @hassan.senate.gov right now.

You really are going to take their word that they’ll come to the table in good faith after the fact. Where have you BEEN the last decade, not to mention the last nine months. Are you serious right now? #nhpolitics #newhampshire

Some pics from yesterday's hike. Most of the trees are bare so it was all about the fungi and Bigfoot

A lichen surrounded by leaves, turkey tail mushrooms on a log and chaga(?) fungus attacking the "Hobbit Tree"

Second time doing this hike and still no Bigfoot. I'm suspecting that this is fake 🤨

Technically the growing season is over here, although I don't think we've had a hard freeze yet. Clematis, pineapple sage and alyssum still going strong.

I usually plant the pineapple sage in a pot, but had space in a bed this year. It's over 5 feet tall at this point and blooming like crazy.

Any comment there @nytimes.com? The sound of silence coming from your organization is deafening
What happened, @nytimes.com? Why not stand by your original headline? Because it’s absolutely an accurate representation of this trash conversation.

To publish this at all should be a fireable offense - but to publish it as women’s rights are being decimated is deeply immoral, bordering on evil

Since it's cool weather season I made a black walnut cake with cream cheese frosting, probably my favorite cake. Added a bit of black walnut extract which amped the flavor up nicely.

On Halloween Eve in 1938 Orson Wells produced a radio play based on The War of the Worlds. The play started as a normal musical program that segued into news reports of a Martian craft landing in Grovers Mill NJ and invading the US.
