After farmers in the village of Glozel unearthed unusual artifacts, an archaeologist began excavations, revealing pottery with alphabet-like symbols that seemed far too advanced for the site’s age.

Among college graduates ages 22 to 27, computer science and computer engineering majors are facing some of the highest unemployment rates, 6.1 percent and 7.5 percent respectively, according to a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. That is more than double the unemployment rate among recent biology and art history graduates, which is just 3 percent.

On the east bank of the Rhone in Lyon stands the Tony Bertand Aquatic center, built in 1965 to designs by Alexandre Audouze-Tabourin. An Olympic folly, complete with 4 enormous “torch” towers, part of mayor Louis Pradel’s quest to being the 1968 Summer Games to the city (Mexico City got the bid).
On the far bank of a river stands a concrete complex consisting of 2 Olympic-size swimming pools with four torchiere towers and a shade porch in the center. The 4 “Olympic torch” towers in white painted concrete along the river Rhone. Two of the torch towers flanking a triangular projecting shade area at the center of the pool complex.

I only had to land in Lyon to immediately see the structurally flamboyant work of Santiago Calatrava in the Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport Station (1994). Very insect-like. And the bollards were all gabion cages. Looking forward to more new-to-me architecture!

Making the most of a rainy holiday to put up my new bathroom mirror. The light fixture went up two weeks ago, but the wall had to be spackled and painted first. I kept a piece of the original 1969 woven wallpaper.

Old light fixture/medicine cabinet which was rusting inside. Framed piece of the original woven multicolor striped wallpaper from 1969 that was behind the medicine cabinet. Stripes are white, yellow, green, and blue.
