Truly an amazing experience. My HST2018 group still keeps in touch! Jeff Weiner called all of the HST alumni "ambassadors" to carry the knowledge of CERN to our students and public.

🎢 Brilliant demonstration from @cossettej.bsky.social of the relationship between normal force and friction force on a car.

I have thought about this since we saw our membership and conference attendance dropping in our region, especially among hs teachers. Fewer physics prog's producing teachers? Less AAPT involvement in college departments? More non-physicists teaching? Pref. for NSTA? High membership cost increases?

That's one of the reasons I love teaching regular/honors physics in high school using modeling. They learn all about kinematics and the relationship between the graphs of position, velocity, and acceleration, and then get a giant 'aha!' moment or two in calculus.

I have been out of any active gis/gsa projects for a while. Is ArcGIS just assumed, or what are the choices of mapping software? At one time I used Idrisi, and have toyed with GRASS.

I'm trying to decide what Switch game to buy. I have the nostalgia packs with n64, nes, and Gameboy games, but it's time for something modern. Suggestions?

Probably a good-enough-by-eye bezier from an Apple II or early Mac system.

I would chastise my students for my previous answer.

It's not x = -t^2, it is x^2 = t
(Not including the translation constants)

It's not x = -y^2, it is y^2 = x

Oddly it seems to have fixed itself without intervention. 🤷

It kind of feels like the old Twitter band is getting back together. I've missed classic-era physics teacher Twitter.

Ever get partway through a build and think "groups of eight would be fine..."? 😄
