I think One Battle After Another is a very well made, entertaining film that engages with our current moment in a sharp & effective way. It'll likely make my personal Top 10 for 2025. But it's not manna delivered from heaven. If you pass on it in favor of movies that speak more to you, no harm done.

If it's truly not speaking to you at this time for the reasons that you outlined then don't feel bad or force yourself to watch just to be "part of the conversation". The high probability that it'll dominate the Oscars doesn't make it obligatory viewing. Your cinematic experience should be your own.

Giddy is a strong word because they’re still a longshot to make the playoffs, but they’ve won three in a row, beat both of last Super Bowl teams in consecutive weeks, and are playing very good football after a rough start to the year. “Very happy” is a reasonable way to describe my feelings.
