This is awful. Used to go to HK for business. I’d see these 20-30 story apt bldgs going up and realize the scaffolding was bamboo poles all the way up. Notice them in the video.

Serious question: if quantum computing were at a mature stage, would we need these massive data centers for AI. My understanding is AI uses traditional binary languages and quantum is very different and could be more efficient.

They are the most corrupt but as for debased, they are in competition with the Taney court of the 1850s that rendered the Dred Scott case, saying those of African descent were property.

I graduated from college 50 years ago. A friends 1st job was a 2 year assignment with the US Mint interviewing business people around the country about elimination of the penny. US Govt wanted it back then but too many people balked.

As a man with 45 years in professional environments, I can say this: women normalized the work place since men had to stop being drunk frat boys. I would never want to go back to the workplace of the 70s-80s-90s where bosses screamed all the time and humiliating subordinates indicated toughness.

What I find weird is this. My grandmother, born in 1896, was hardcore, fundamentalist Southern Baptist. Back then they did not believe in mixing politics and religion since anything of this world would corrupt the church. Falwell & Co. started mixing it up and indeed the church became corrupt.

Finance specialists have looked at the level of loans needed (more than available investment capital) and the required ROI needed (within 5 years 2 trillion in revenue). Will never happen. Substack has in depth articles on it. Excellent reads.

Just back from Kroger store near us. 1lb of grass fed beef is $20. It is a luxury item of sorts but proportional change ($10 last year) must be happening with other grades.

Actually my opinion of Oz went up a few millimeters, as he intervened and later said “when someone starts to buckle grab them and let them down easy. Often the fall is worse than the initial health event.” At least he can play a doctor on TV. Wish Bondi could play a real lawyer on TV.

They can say that but Dems flipped 15 state legislative districts, many in staunchly red areas. Central and southwest VA are hard core MAGA but seats flipped there. This was a seismological event.

When people ask the question - which direction for Dems - my first thought is to encourage robust, competitive primaries. Let it bubble up. That way The People decide the direction not Dem elites. Isn’t that the essence of democracy?

Many Asian cultures refer to any older relative or older close family friend as uncle or aunt. I am White but have friends in the Cambodian community in DC. I am referred to by anyone a generation younger as “uncle”. It always makes me feel welcome.

Looking out over the next 50 years, there are so many difficult intersecting vectors - climate, depopulation, deglobalizing, continuing digital upheaval. Much of what we will need is already with our NAmerican trading partners. We should be strengthening ties, not us shitting on them.

As has been said, and noted here, this is not about the horizontal (left-right). It is about the vertical (rich-poor). We move the conversation there, we will get the waffling middle to vote blue.
