This was a grimly amusing headline to see when on a train down to London, from Manchester, today. On which - when did the Avanti trains become so tatty? Toilet in front of us - broken. Toilet behind us - broken. Every armrest fraying badly & falling apart, the train seems to be slowly rotting.

A super fun* experience recently was creating an account to see how much I've paid off on my student loan, then seeing that the interest payments each month for the last year have been more than the payments I'm making, and so the big number has been going the wrong way...

*Well, not that much fun.

Last thing I bought off them was a PS4 and Bloodborne combo pack back in... 2016 when I moved to a new job and the extra salary from it made me feel flush. So I still thought of them as somewhere to go for toys etc!

We're the same age & my view of Argos is still the Argos catalogue before Xmas, looking at toys me & my brother won't actually buy (hello stretch Armstrong) so I can understand it?

This may be impacted by my bother in law working for AO though, so whenever we need an appliance, he sorts us out.

The one thing I'm trying to console myself with is, this performance was baked in when the team came out with ten changes to the weekend. TEN!

(If nothing else, it does Leverkusen's manager's team talk for him - "lads, look how little they think of you" etc)

That does look like an exceptionally comfy cushion, good move Daphne!

I hope you complied with this request promptly!

Desmond can be very similar in his demands, and will *not* be taking no for an answer.

(It makes me laugh now to think the shelter we got him from said "we can't promise he'll ever be a lap cat, given his time as a stray", and now look at him!)

So a keypad isn't a keyboard but just numbers then? When I saw this post the initial image I had, from my days living in a flat, was what you use to punch a code into, to get into the building?

(Still have that code seared into my brain now, though I would hope it's been changed since I left!)

Thought Newcastle were really good, their league position pre-match seems unrepresentative. City were good at times and, with better finishing (Foden!), could have got a draw. Overall not too disappointed, in part cos I'm thinking how the team last year would have done (they'd have been battered).

Speaking of cats sitting near radiators in the hope of them giving out some much needed warmth... (In this instance, Desmond's luck is in, the radiator is indeed now switched on!)

(I used to live round the corner from Jack's House & saw it being done up when it was purchased and renovated, then opened and families started staying there. It really is an amazing place, and the current @younglivesvscancer.bsky.social team based there are fantastic in the support they provide!)

Ah that Quality Save, I'll never not miss it.

Also, much as I do like our house (it does have character! And a nice back garden and ginnel which is amazing in Summer), I also dislike the £10,000s we've had to pay on the roof, brickwork, damp proofing, new windows, new flooring... Not an issue you'll get with newly built flats, you'd hope!
