Some good news on the foreign aid funding freeze fight! As many have seen, the DC District Court has just issued a TRO against USG. A big initial victory, but there's a long road ahead. Some initial thoughts on the ruling, but first, here is the @nytimes.com writeup:

Many are relieved that our friends received “only” 7-year sentences instead of life in prison. But none of the #HK47 pro-democracy campaigners (and the other 1,800+ political prisoners) should have been imprisoned at all.

Even one day in jail is too long.

Release them now.

The #HK47 convicted in Hong Kong’s largest national security trial after running in a primary election are expected to be sentenced on 11/19.

We ask that the int’l community closely monitor the situation & govts to respond w concrete actions, including sanctions against involved judges & officials.
