If this was an AWS service, you bet your bottom dollar there would be an uproar.

Redis is a great example, and, ironically, AWS is the one that lead the charge to make Valkey, an open source, permissibly licensed alternative to Redis, a possibility!!

Such a shame that players spend hundreds and hundreds of hours on a promise that a live service game will still be around for them to enjoy.

Then for the rug to get pulled because the math isn't mathing on profitability for the whole division.

7n In my opinion, you don't even need to look at circular investment charts (also wild and telling), it's all there in the product! The story that OpenAI and many of the AI labs are telling with their product is that AGI is no where close.

6/n What happens when NVIDIA crashes?

Sell sell sell! NVIDIA will obvious tank but because so much of total market capitalization is in NVIDIA, all other tickers like VOO, SP500, and VTI will drop possibly leading to some death spiral sell off - a real "black thursday" situation circa 1929

5/n NVIDIA investors were NOT sold on yet another internet ad business: they invested in AGI shovels.

So, what happens when AI labs can't deliver on the AGI future? Well, investor interest drops, evaluations plummet, demand for inference drops, demand for NVIDIA chips stops, and NVIDIA crashes ...

4/n But what do ads or feeds have to do with NVIDIA?

The $4T+ (trillion with a T!) market cap of NVIDIA (which makes up something like ~10% of the SP500 capitalization on any given day) is so high because investors were sold on the idea that super intelligent AI would eventually replace all jobs.

3/n The logic goes something like this:

If you're raising all this money to go build AGI:

... yet you're building SlopTok
... and putting feeds/apps into ChatGPT
... a product which doesn't actually generate you revenue

Then how close are your researchers to achieving AGI really?

2.b/n ... Only about ~5% of ChatGPT's ~800 million users are paying! And depending on how you square the math (how expensive it is to train models, run the inference, electricity, etc.) they are likely still loosing money on each message in ChatGPT!

OpenAI has five years to turn $13 billion into $1 trillion
Some of America's most valuable companies are now leaning on OpenAI to fulfill major contracts, notes the FT.

2.a/n (and just to put it in perspective, OpenAI is absolutely hemorrhaging money - they are on track to spend ~$1T over the next 10 years on new compute capacity from NVIDIA, Oracle, etc. while basically none of their users are willing to pay for the service! ...
