Maybe "naive" is too strong; a more Enlightened word is "idealistic." It is not the the framers' fault that they couldn't foresee a scenario where the Congress would so willingly cede its authority to the Executive or the Judiciary ignore the Constitution in favor of an imperial presidency

The constitutional crisis began when the political and legal establishment refused to hold Trump accountable. The framers naively believed there would never be a scenario where the checks and balances they built into the system would fail. The failsafe was another revolution, in Jefferson's words.
