Hilarious to listen to Amol Rajan and Chris Mason bemoaning the fact that people are talking about leadership challenges with all the other issues facing the nation. They then proceed to spend the next ten minutes salivating over the prospect of a contest #r4today

The important story behind this story is that someone in Downing Street is having a breakdown:

On a more serious note: British politics have been in crisis mode for ten years and this is a real problem whatever your politics. It undermines trust in government and democracy, fuels populism, and makes the UK an unstable partner at a time when the geopolitical situation is very dangerous.

As I think Labour is discovering but few in the Conservatives wanted to is this inter-connected world has few opportunities for growth in mature economies, and lots of expectations from people that governments can and will do everything to remove risk. Doesn't add up.

I know it's all so stupid, but this isn't why it's DoD. Army/War and Navy being separate was outdated and impractical, needed to unify. "Defense" as a common name for that started w/ "Minister of Defence" in the UK, created for the same reason by notoriously woke war-loser Winston Churchill.
Trump: "We have officially renamed the Dept of Defense back to the original name, Dept of War. And remember we won World War 1, we won World War 2, we won everything in between. We won everything that came before. And then we brilliantly decided to change the name. We became politically correct"

Decades-old racism is returning to British politics, and “it makes people feel very scared” Keir Starmer has said, warning that divisive hard-right politics was “tearing our country apart”.
Speaking to GP and TV personality Amir Khan, the prime minister accused Nigel Farage’s Reform UK of overseeing a return of the racist and divisive politics “that frankly I thought we had dealt with decades ago”. Continue reading...
