One strength of the Dormanns et al model is how it isolates the temporal roles of neuronal vs endothelial NO and their interactions with other signals like K⁺. It gives a structured way to test how different sources of NO contribute to CBF dynamics, something hard to dissect in vivo.

The model of NO in neurovascular coupling by Dormanns and colleagues offers a valuable lens into how timing, cellular sources, and feedback loops shape flow responses. Although it isn't a mirror of in vivo reality this seems a strong base for hypothesis-building in hippocampal NVC.

Interestingly, the positive effects of nitrate appear to be linked to the duration of supplementation, instead of following a dose-dependent pattern!
