I think it was C.S. Lewis that imagined hell as people slowly eating each other.
That's what fascism does; it makes everyone competitive, wary, cruel. Alliances are fleeting because only raw power, greed, and self-preservation matter. People eat people. That's what #Trump and his ilk are bringing.
