Hello 👋🏽 I'm Jonathan Ya'el, a queer writer + illustrator exploring monstrosity and memory through speculative fiction. Currently working on a myriad of horror comic projects.
Illustration of a pale woman wading into a dark lake at night, her white hair falling around her. Her head is bent at a disconcerting angle. She smiles eerily and cups water in her hands, offering it to us. Painting of a sinister figure suspended upside down. An emperor moth is laid over their face, the eyespots of its wings covering their eyes. Multiple mouths smile across their neck. They are wearing a dark dress and their hair radiates behind them. Comic page from my webcomic, Every Time I Die, I Wake Up Here. Vincent, a Black trans man from the 19th century, encounters a shadowy apparition of himself in the night, its body crawling with maggots. Narrative text reads, "Like I've lost something precious and no amount of grief will bring it back. As blood circles the drain and maggots take to flesh, it waits for me from across the room. Rotting." Black and white illustration of figure with long dark hair. Maggots and centipedes crawl over and out from their face.

In a completely unexpected & surreal turn of events, I was asked to illustrate a thank you gift for My Chemical Romance's Seattle performance! It feels completely unreal to have had the opportunity to make something a band I love got to receive! 🥹 #mychemicalromance #mcr
Black and white digital illustration of My Chemical Romance performing, done in the style of vintage comic book covers. Circular panels highlight each member of the band along the left side of the page, while the central illustration shows them performing against the backdrop of T-Mobile Park.

My illustration for @novamali.bsky.social's And They Were Monsters 2024 art book 🪱
Illustration of a trans man with long curly hair sitting on his knees in a cozy, candlelit bedroom. He is wearing lingerie and a dark silk robe, which he opens to reveal a hole in his chest from which a large parasitic worm emerges. He gently holds the worm and the two almost kiss. Behind him on the wall are oval portraits of the two of them.

Line art for a page from my webcomic, Every Time I Die, I Wake Up Here.
Line art of a gothic horror comic page. A mixed Black trans man in Victorian era clothing turns slightly in his chair, holding a pair of scissors that cut an empty dialogue bubble. Behind him, a Black and Asian man leans tentatively against a door frame.
