One is convinced that it contains a mothership that is coming to save us and the government shutdown is planned to keep NASA from releasing photos of it.

I need to spend more time online.

AI would advance even if OpenAI disappeared. AI really actually does powerful things that will transform a lot of how we live and work even if AI did not advance further. The way to influence the future is not to pretend that AI is going to go away, but push for it to be used well & mitigate harms.

"I didn't realize just how biased AI is! That was very eye-opening."

This comment came from an educator after one of my recent sessions. It's exactly why I do this work.

Still hearing suggestions that students should use LLM for brainstorming. As and English teacher, I want my learners to spend some time in those pre-writing stages thinking before being handed a list, so what if they used the LLM as something to prompt them instead?

It’s worth reminding/informing your state representatives that Trump's bill did initially include a provision for a 10-year moratorium on states creating AI laws, this provision was removed from the final bill that was signed into law.

There’s no ban on creating AI laws. States can regulate AI!

A big part of this in my experience is that districts spend all kinds of $$$ on LMS or EdTech & never provide training/support for using it. I do believe an effective use of an LMS can help and dave time, but I’ve never seen it happen without a teacher devoting their own time into figuring it out.
🧵 addressing the argument: "AI won’t replace teachers, but it will save them time and make them more effective.”

Adding edtech doesn't necessarily save teachers time. A recent study found that LMSs sold to schools over the past decade+ as time-savers aren’t delivering on making teaching easier.
Technology is supposed to decrease teacher burnout – but we found it can sometimes make it worse
Efforts to simplify teachers’ jobs through technology can backfire without a strong focus on teacher well-being.
